[edit] Pre Mortal Kombat

Raiden is a God of Thunder and Lightning that is the leading protector of Earthrealm. Though, during a quarrel of the Elder Gods caused by Shinnok who betrayed the other Gods, he helped the Elder Gods banish Shinnok into the Netherrealm for his treachery. But by Doing this, Raiden made earthrealm more vulnerable to a potential invasion by another realm. But this would not come until the present time.

[edit] Mortal Kombat

As Earthrealm lost 9 Mortal Kombat Tournaments in a row to a realm known as Outworld, Raiden was sent by the Elder Gods to aid the present generation of warriors respresenting Earthrealm in Mortal Kombat. Raiden has helped the Earthrealm warriors fight against the forces of Outworld and as the Shaolin Monk named Liu Kang fought the Shokan warrior Goro and Mortal Kombat's grandmaster Shang Tsung, Raiden lead the surviving Earthrealm warriors off of Shang Tsung's island.

A few months after Earthrealm claimed victory over Outworld in Mortal Kombat. Then, he heard that Outworld's Emperor, Shao Kahn attacking Earthrealm. Raiden knows that this is forbidden (by the Sacred Rules of Mortal Kombat) he must lead the Earthrealm warriors into Outworld by sacrificing his immortality and guide them through Kahn's other warriors, and as Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung, Kintaro and Shao Kahn himself, he helped the other warriors out of Outworld, what do Raiden and the earthrealm warriors did not realize that Shao Kahn plans to invade Earthrealm directly.

As Shao Kahn invades Earthrealm several weeks later, Raiden has found himself almost completely helpless against this invasion, though he has chosen only a handful of warriors to represent Earthrealm and fight against Kahn's forces, but because of the Outworld Gods controlling Earthrealm, he can not physically help them. As Raiden looks on from the skies above Earthrealm, the Earthrealm warriors defeat Shao Kahn's forces and Liu Kang fighting and defeating Kahn once again. Now Raiden can enjoy peace as earthrealm is disconnected from Outworld.

It will be a year since Shao Kahn invaded Earthrealm. But what Raiden will soon discover that the fallen Elder God, Shinnok would be realeased from the Netherrealm by the scorcerer Quan Chi. With Shinnok free from the Netherrealm, he vows revenge on the Elder Gods and continue his ambition on controlling Earthrealm. Raiden mortalized himself again to help the Earthrealm warriors, again with Liu Kang defeating Shinnok and Earthrealm safe again. Raiden assends to the skies above Earthrealm. The Elder Gods bestowed upon Raiden the rank of new Elder God of Earthrealm, and he even chooses a God of Wind named Fujin to succeed him as protector of Earthrealm.

[edit] Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

Raiden has performed well as beign Earthrealm's Elder God for several years. But what he failed to realize that Quan Chi was far from finished, he allied himself with Shang Tsung and together formed what would be known as the "Deadly Alliance." Upon hearing about Liu Kang's death at the hands of the Deadly Alliance, he relinqushes his status of Elder God to aid the Earthrealm warriors to defeat the Deadly Alliance beofre they could revive the Invincible Army of The Dragon King, Onaga. Unfortunately for Raiden, the Earthrealm warriors would fail and die by the Alliance. In desperation, Raiden takes it upon himself to fight against the Deadly Alliance himself, but he as well was unsuccessful. As the Deadly Alliance began to self-destruct and fight against Onaga himslf, Raiden revives and helps the Alliance defeat Onaga. But as their combined powers could not defeat the dragon king, Raiden consentrates all of his power to create a huge explosion, which kills off the deadly alliance and himself and Onaga's invincible army. But not the King himself.

[edit] Mortal Kombat: Deception

Raiden had sacrified himself to defend Earthrealm. But he would materialize into human again, but he would lose his conscience along with it, Raiden would become corrupted. As he heard of the dead Earthrealm warriors being re-animated to do Onaga's bidding. But he would encounter a warrior named Shujinko who he believes that he realeased Onaga, but he would lose to the warrior. Than, Raiden decides to desecrate the tomb of Liu Kang and re-animate his body before Onaga could re-animate it and use Earthrealm's mightiest warriror for his own ambition, he ordered the body to protect Earthrealm at any ocst, so it went on a rampage, killing many innocent people. However Raiden would encounter Shinnok again after Liu Kang's body was re-animated, and made Raiden an offer he could not refuse, but Raiden would use his new alliance with Shinnok to find out what Shinnok is really planning.

[edit] Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

As the realms were becoming increasingly unstable and all of the warriors fighting for the power of the Elder Gods (recently bestowed onto a being of fire named Blaze). Raiden would form another alliance, this time with Shao Kahn as he agrees to let Kahn conquer the other realms as long he does not conquer Earthrealm. But Kahn tells him to find the son of Edenian Elder God, Taven and eliminate him. As the rest of the forces of darkness flee into edenia, Raiden fought and lost to Taven, who went on to defeat Blaze. But Taven's power filtered out to Shao Kahn who went on to defeat the Earthrealm warriors and eventually fights Raiden and defeats him, but before Kahn finishes Raiden, he uses his own amulet to reset time to the events of the 10th generation Mortal Kombat in Earthrealm.

As Shao Kahn fails to take Earthrealm through Mortal Kombat, he was encountered by Raiden, who banishes Kahn back to the Outworld. After Raiden bansihes Kahn to the Outworld, he brings Ouan Chi to the Netherrealm. Then, upon seeing strange events going on in Earthrealm, Raiden knows that he must intervene to help the Earthrealm warriors in this new crisis.He hears that Liu Kang went missing, and discovered his location, the U.N. Space Station in the DC Universe, he then fights Batman, despite him lsing to the caped crusader he manages to rescue Liu Kang and bring him back to Raiden's Sky Temple. As Sonya fights Jax while under the influence of "Kombat Rage" he stops the fight and consoles Sonya and Jax with Liu Kang, and informs the warriors of the new crisis, as Sonya and Jax go to the U.N. Space Station, Raiden discovers and tries to figure out a strange rock formation not far from his temple. Then, as Captain Marvel appears, he is threatened by the captain who is badly influenced by the Kombat Rage, he would lose to Captain Marvel and goes back to his temple. Then, Sub-Zero appears at the Sky Temple, Raiden warns Sub-Zero to leave who is requesting assistance from Raiden, but fights the ninja, again Raiden would lose, and agrees to help Sub-Zero. As he returns to the Temple of the Gods with Sub-Zero, Raiden discovers that all of the Realms are merging with an entirely different universe altogether. Sub-Zero wants to find some answers for himself and to see if his enemy, Scorpion is involved. Raiden leaves Sub-Zero with a warning if he betrays his trust. As the rest of the warriors from Earthrealm and other realms, he realizes that both good and evil warriors must fight together to eliminate this threat to all of the realms. The warriors had mixed success with the DC Heroes and Villians. Then, they all head to Outworld where they witness first hand the destruction of the universes merging, and the DC Heroes and Villians. Raiden talks to Superman and challenges his heroes and villians to Mortal Kombat, then as a being named Dark Kahn appears, all of the warriors, heroes and villians fought to the last fighter. As Dark Khan heads to the merging castle, Shang Tsung insists that he and Raiden should follow him, but Raiden believes that Shang Tsung is leading to a trap and fights him, as he defeats Shang Tsung, Liu Kang comes in and tries to stop Raiden from killing Shang Tsung, but Raiden defeats Liu Kang. Raiden then realizes that the Kombat Rage will kill them all if this is left unchecked. So, he heads to the merging castle, where he encounters Superman and fights him, though it is unclear if Raiden defeats Superman or not, but he eventualy teams up with the man of steel to defeat Dark Kahn. After Dark Kahn's defeat, Raiden and the rest of the warriors gather at Shao Kahn's throne room, then they encounter Darksied who is drained of his powers. Raiden takes Darkseid to the Netherrealm who awaits his punishment from the Elder Gods.

As Shao Kahn obtains the power of the elder gods from Taven, he uses this new power to defeat every opponent that faced him (including his own allies). He would eventually face Raiden and defeat him, just as he was about to finish him and finally achieve his ultimate goal of conquering all of the realms, Raiden used whatever was left of his amulet to send his soul back to the events of the 10th generation Mortal Kombat tournament. There, he hopes to avert the events of Armageddon before they happen. Liu Kang asks Raiden what is wrong, and Raiden responds that he has visions of his future and his amulet begins to crack and wonders the saying "he must win" means. As he sees Johnny Cage defeat both Reptile and Baraka, he encounters Cage and he and Liu Kang try to tell Cage that something more important that personal glory is at stake, but Cage ignores them both and tries to find Sonya. Raiden then goes with Liu Kang as he trains to compete in the tournament. In Goro's lair, he encounters Sonya who tries to challenge Shang Tsung, but tells her that she must not engage Shang Tsung in battle as he must allow Liu Kang to defeat him. But Sonya refuses to listen and fights Raiden instead, though Sonya would defeat Raiden and try to escape from the island with Jax, their helicopter it was shot down by unknown forces. But, Raiden was able to find them and he uses his magic to heal Jax. Then, Raiden sees one of Shang Tsung's masked guards, and realizes that the guard is actually Kung Lao, with it Kung Lao breaks his disguise and decides to challenge Scorpion, but he would lose to the assassin. Raiden then confronts Scorpion, who wants revenge on Bi-Han who killed his family and his ninja clan, the Shirai-Ryu. Raiden makes a promise to Scorpion that he will tell the Elder Gods to revive his family and clan *if* Scorpion spares Sub-Zero's life. But Scorpion would be enraged by Quan Chi and kills Sub-Zero anyway. Then, as the tournament continues, it was Liu Kang's turn to fight, he would fight Ermac, Raiden warns Liu Kang about Ermac before Liu Kang fights him, he would defeat the mysterious warrior, Raiden would also watch Liu kang fight and defeat Scorpion and Quan Chi. Liu Kang would also fight and defeat Goro and Shang Tsung. Raiden congradulates Liu Kang for his victories and presents him a medal at the Wu-Shi Acadamy (but his amulet continues to crack), then while talking to Jax, Raiden was approached by Shang Tsung, who proposes Raiden with an invitation to Kahn's tournament in Outworld. Raiden rejects, leading Shang Tsung to send a Tarkatan horde to attack the acadamy, as he revives Jax he Raiden and Cage head to outworld to compete in Kahn's tournament. He witnessed Jax fighting Baraka in Kahn's throne room. They venture to the armory where Jax fights and defeats Jade, then Jax and cage fight against each other, but Raiden breaks it up as Jax defeats Cage, as Jax goes to rescue Sonya, he and Cage venture to the wasteland where they find Smoke about to be taken by the cybernized Lin Kuei, Raiden saves Smoke who joins him and Cage. Then, as Smoke fights Kitana but loses to her, Raiden confronts Kitana and tells her to go to Shang Tsung's "flesh pits" despite that Kitana is forbidden to go there, but complies by doing what Raiden told her. As Raiden meets up with Liu Kang and Kung Lao, Liu Kang makes an attempt to free Kitana while Kung Lao fights Shang Tsung and Quan Chi and Kintaro, as Kahn eliminates Kung Lao and fights Liu kang (who eventually defeats Kahn) Raiden's amulet cracks even further, telling that Liu kang is not the one who must win, but still he and the Earthrealm warriors ventured back to Earthrealm. But as Kahn invades Earthrealm, he leads the warriors against Kahn's forces, he then encounters a SWAT officer Stryker and then helps Cage eliminate Motaro. Then, Raiden and the rest of the Earthrealm warriors gather at the temple, Raiden watches as the warriors fight against Kahn's forces, but his aumlet continues to crack and takes Liu Kang and speaks to the Elder Gods. As he speaks to them, they decree that Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm is not in direct violation of the rules of Mortal Kombat and refuse to aid Raiden and the Earthrealm warriors. As he and Liu Kang return to the temple, Sindel has eliminated all of the Earthrealm warriors (except for Cage and Sonya), Liu Kang also came to the conclusion that Raiden has become obsessedin his quest that Liu Kang now believes that is impossible to complete, but as Liu Kang try to attend to Cage and Sonya, Raiden ventures to the Netherealm in hopes to find Quan Chi, but he encounters Scorpion and asks him to send Quan Chi Scorpion refuses and fights Raiden, as Radien defeats Scorpion, he sends Quan Chi to Raiden. Then, Raiden begs for help from the Netherealm in return for the souls of the fallen warriors (that includes his own if he also falls in battle), but what Raiden soon realizes that Quan Chi already has the souls of the fallen Earthrealm warriors (as an offer from Shao Kahn for the Netherealm's co-opperation with Outworld), Raiden fights against Quan Chi's new warriors and defeats them. Quan Chi then leaves, Raiden then realizes that Shao Kahn must be allowed to merge the 2 realms together in order for the Elder Gods to stop him. He ventures back to Earthrealm only to find Liu Kang about to fight Kahn as he is slowly coming out of the portal. As Liu Kang waits for Kahn to come forth from the portal, Raiden tells Liu Kang that he should wait until Kahn merges Earthrealm with Outworld, but Liu Kang refuses to listen and fights Raiden, as Raiden wins Liu Kang is about to finish Raiden who turns the tables on Liu Kang and is badly injured and passes out (whether Liu Kang lives or dies is uncertain). As Shao Kahn merges the 2 realms, he confronts Raiden and beats him (in the same style that he would during the climatic events of Armageddon), but just as Kahn was about to eliminate Raiden, the Elder Gods come in and aid Raiden in his fight against Kahn. Raiden eventually defeats Kahn and the Elder Gods eliminate him. With the 2 realms separated. Raiden joins with Cage and Sonya, filled with grief that he defeatd Liu Kang, he takes him along with Cage and Sonya to not only revive Liu kang, but Earthrealm. But Raiden may soon realize that Quan Chi is far from finished. Quan Chi told the fallen Elder God Shinnok that with the defeat of Shao Kahn will come the conquering of both Earthream and Outworld by Shinnok. But only time will tell when Quan Chi and Shinnok will put their plan into action.
