Shang Tsung is the evil scorcerer that was one of Shao Kahn's finest warriors. He was one of the first scorcerers that could harness the power to devour a being's soul. He fought in many Mortal Kombat tournaments (including the one in edenia). However, he would become the tournament's originator when it moved to the earthrealm. He watched as his warriors defeated the earthrealm 9 times in a row. But when the 10th tournament came, the shaolin monk, Liu Kang defeated Goro, then with monsterous rage, the scorcerer fought the monk, but would siffer the same fate. When he returned to the outworld, Shao Kahn was going to ececute him for his failiure and Goro's apparent death, but Shang Tsung convinced Kahn to spare him and let him formulate another plan to destroy the earthrealm warriors. That is when they attacked the realm and have the warriors to come to the outworld, and have them be killed by Kahn himself. With that, his youth was granted back and he fought alongside Kahn. But, his plan failed again and Kahn was defeated. Shang Tsung was granted more power when the outworld invaded earthrealm, however, he would be defeated once again. That is when he was banished to the outworld for his failiures to take the earthrealm.

Then, he was freed by the scorcerer Quan Chi and the 2 formed the deadly alliance. They killed Shao Kahn, and then Sang Tsung fought Liu Kang again. This time, with the help of Quan Chi, he emerged victorious and consumed the mighty warrior's soul. But, his scemes would be put to a halt after Raiden defeated the scrocerer by sacrificing himself.
