Reptile is a strange part-human part-reptile being as he can change his skin from human like to scaley, like a reptile. He was also a ninja, like Scorpion and Sub-Zero. He was a spy for Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat tournament, who worked in the background, and before Liu Kang defeated Shang Tsung and won the tournament, Reptile fled to the outworld, and gave a report to Shao Kahn that Shang Tsung had failed and Goro was dead. He would fight with the outworld in the fight against Shao Kahn's forces. Then, he was ordered to kill Kitana after she discovered that she was the princess.

Reptile would soon allied with Shinnok, beliving that the elder god would revive his homeland if he was successful of defeating the earthrealm. But Shinnok's treachery and failure would not help. Later on, while going back to his master Shao Kahn, he encountered a strange female vampire, Nitara. In need of a new master after the deadly alliance killed his master Shao Kahn, he would ally with Nitara and foolishly pledge obeidance to her as she kindly asked for him to help her get rid of an earthrealm invader, Cyrax. Reptile wouldn't see the deception and be bested by Cyrax as the vampire expected and needed.
