Raiden is the god of thunder and lightning. During the Mortal Kombat tournament, he was sent to earthrealm by the elder gods to aid the current generation of earthrealm warriors. He had succeeded in his mission as the earthrealm warriors defeated the outworld. Several months after the tournament, Raiden was called into action again as Shao Kahn attacked the earthrealm, once again he led the earthrealm warriors into the outworld to defeat the evil emperor.

Unfortunately, Raiden could not lead the earthrealm warriors during the outworld invasion as the outworls gods ruled the earthrealm. But he used some of his powers to aid the warriors to defeat of Shao Kahn again.

But, the defeat of Shao Kahn came of a new danger, a year after the invasion, another portal to another realm, known as the netherrealm opened and that allowed the fallen elder god, Shinnok to eascape and wreak havoc on the earthrealm, again he aided the earthrealm warriors in the fight against Shinnok. Then, the deadly alliance was formed, and earthrealm's strongest warrior Liu Kang was murdered. He led the earthrealm warriors in the fight against the deadly alliance, he fought Shang Tsung and defeatd him by sacrificing himself. But, he became courrupted by his sacrifice as the fight against Onaga escelated.
