Hotaru is a noble warrior, who once delved into Outworld in an attempt to push back the raging Tarkatan horde from the city of Lei Chen. However, as the yars went by, the same attacking force would be led by, Onaga who Hotaru would then serve, slaughtering any who would stand against his master. One of the combatants he pursued was the Lin Kuei assassin, Sub Zero. Little did he know, Hotaru was also being hunted; Dairou, who Hotaru had once been a guardsman for, was now out to kill Hotaru.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

As Taven, in conquest mode, Hotaru first confronts you as you try to enter the headquarters of the Black Dragon Clan. Upon his defeat he vanishes.

Hotaru's arcade ending sees him defeat the mighty Blaze, and with the powers granted to him, he became a being of total order. He made all bow down before him, transforming any who resisted. He also made, Havik his second-in-command.
