A fatality is deadly and violent move that any character can pull off by pressing a certain combination of buttons that are performed while the opponent is dizzy, after his/her health meter is empty. Fatalities are easily one of the most recognizable features of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Over the years, other finishing moves have been created with the success of fatalities, including friendships, babalities, animalities, brutalities and hara-kiris. Fatalities have been around since the original Mortal Kombat and have been featured in every game so far. Starting from Mortal Kombat 2, each character had two fatalities and with the exception of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, every character had two fatalities on every game following Mortal Kombat 2.

Variations

Stage Fatalities - These are fatalities that involve the environment of the stage. Like normal fatalites, these debuted on Mortal Kombat 1, but could only be used in one stage at the time. These were featured in every game in the series, with the exception of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. After that, they returned in Mortal Kombat: Deception as "Death Traps" and could be performed at any time during the fight (as long as the opponent is near the death trap), rather than having to wait until you defeat your opponent, like before. These kind of stage fatalities were also featured in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

Kreate-A-Fatality - These were featured in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon and they replaced the normal fatalities. Each character no longer had their own unique fatality, but instead, each character could pull off a string of deadly moves. Every character could pull off the same exact string of deadly moves, except for some boss characters, who's were slightly different. These won't be returning in Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe, but normal fatalities will be brought back.
